After I have my pet microchipped, is there anything else I need to do?

You pet’s microchip should continue to function over your pet’s lifetime without any maintenance; however, the system won’t work unless you can be contacted when your pet is found.

The HomeAgain microchip system we participate in has the advantage of registering your pet’s microchip with a national database. Initially, the microchip is registered to our clinic and then to you through our computer software system. Once you pay the additional registration fee, the microchip can be directly linked to you and any emergency contacts you like. We will still be listed as your veterinarian, and contacted if you cannot be reached. See our microchip page to find out about the other advantages of registering your microchip.

However your pet’s microchip is registered, you must keep your contact information current. Whenever you move or change your phone number, make sure you update that information with your pet’s microchip manufacturer and with our clinic. Remember to also get your pet new ID tags at the same time.

Any microchip can be registered through our clinic with the HomeAgain database. If your pet came to you with a breeder placed microchip or from another source be sure to ask us about registering.

Emergencies

We have a veterinarian on call for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call the clinic and if your call is not answered directly you will receive a message instructing you how to reach the on-call doctor.
